Trends in PFAS Deposition in NC

Abstract

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of emerging compounds that have gained a lot of attention in North Carolina in recent years.  North Carolina is one of a few states that has a fluorochemical manufacturing facility.  The presentation will provide updated data and trends analysis from the NC Division of Air Quality’s PFAS Deposition Network at background locations across the state compared to sites near a fluorochemical manufacturing facility.  Data will be shown from 2018 to mid-2025 for GenX chemicals and from 2022 to mid-2025 for several additional PFAS compounds.  Deposition values over time will be explored, as well as comparisons of wet, dry, and total deposition.  Wind rose data and PFAS signature data will be shown for a select set of samples.
